Open Letter of Dr. Meryl Nass (USA) to Moldovan rulers

|

Dear Maia Sandu, President of Moldova,
Dear Chairman and Members of Parliament,
Dear members of the Superior Council of the Magistracy,
Dear Prime Minister Dorin Receanu,
Dear Justice Minister Veronica Mihailov-Moraru,
Dear Prosecutor-General Ion Munteanu,

I am writing to you regarding Iurie Rosca, whom I hold in high regard. As you know, Mr. Rosca is an academic historian as well as a former esteemed member of the Moldovan Parliament. He also holds yearly Chisinau Seminars that include academics and experts from around the world.

Dr. Meryl Nass

I have been fortunate to know Mr. Rosca, and to have been interviewed by Mr. Rosca. I have presented at his Seminar. And I have republished his material on my website. His work has a large following in the United States.

While I do not know all the details of his case, I have learned that the case sat in limbo for many years due to lack of evidence and lack of any witness of the alleged crime. Now that Mr. Rosca’s writings are getting wide attention, suddenly the case has resurfaced.

Mr. Rosca is a dissident. He speaks his mind. That should not be a crime, but nations everywhere are criminalizing dissent in one way or another. One hopes Moldova is not using “lawfare” to rid itself of a dissident voice.

Mr. Rosca is 63 years old. He has no public office. He is no threat. He will not fare well in prison at this age, and he will be considered a political prisoner if sentenced to prison.

I beg of you to drop this prosecution and allow him to remain free. I look forward to reporting in the US that there has been a positive resolution of his case.

With great respect,
Dr. Meryl Nass, medical doctor and researcher, USA
